I like that solution. I think it would break on enormous files, but for 99%+ of situations it's conceptually a bit easier to grasp.

Hello Carl!

I've always used another method. it uses more commands, but strikes me as a bit simpler to remember! :-)

To display line 5 of file.txt, try this:

 cat file.txt | head -n 5 | tail -n 1

This is probably less efficient, particularly for very large files.

Check out the chromium browser by google for ubuntu. I believe the ppa for it is chromium-daily at launchpad.net. Chromium is written in c++ and uses the latest webkit standards so it is wicked fast. I use it as my default on Ubuntu for my Acer Aspire One! Cheers!

From the state that brought us a huge step forward on gay marriage? I hope that Christians and other religious groups view this as a potential threat to their freedom as well. I think people forget that "freedom to practice your religion" also means that you have the freedom not to practice any religion at all. I used to support Culver, but this clearly reveals the quality of his thought processes on both legal and religious matters in such a way that I can't support him anymore.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention! Below is what I sent to the Governer through the web site.

Dear Governer Culver,
As you're surely aware by now, your reaction to the Iowa Atheists bus advertisement has made waves far outside of your state. I certainly understand that the comments and actions of politicians are often taken out of context and I hope that such is the case in this situation. It's hard to imagine any educated person being disturbed by the thought that there are people who don't believe in something they can't see.

I hope you'll reconsider your position and understand that it affects Americans in every state of this country, whether directly or indirectly.

Thank you for your time.

morally what he did is superior then what most would do in such a situation, but when we are hired for jobs we are specifically trained on what to do should such situations arise on the work place. If you think about it, what he made was a decision to get involved. I am a woman of past brutal abuse and no I do not enjoy it nor did I then, BUT I would not advise someone to get into the middle of the domestic situation. It is something the athorities are to take care of, so as no one around would get hurt. A bit of social humiliation goes away because we realise it is not our fault the person acts irrational and out of conduct in a social environment or in our home. The last thing tho I would want is to feel less of a person because someone else put tthier life on the line and is not getting compensated for doing so. We make our choices, just as Nigel did and there are consequences to making the right choices at the wrong times, vice versa. I do give this man admiration for what he did, however I do understand from his employments point of view also, sadly enough.
excuse all my misspellings, I am sure it didnt prevent ya from understand my opinion.
